Ethiopia and Italy Reaffirm Commitment to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

Addis Ababa, November 19, 2025 - H.E. Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, received today the newly appointed Ambassador of Italy to Ethiopia, H.E. Sem Fabrizi, in a courtesy meeting aimed at strengthening the long-standing and strategic partnership between the two nations.

The discussion underscored mutual aspirations to elevate bilateral cooperation, expand private-sector engagement, and enhance collaborative efforts in support of Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reforms.

During the meeting, both sides reiterated their commitment to consolidate the historic ties that have anchored Ethiopia–Italy relations.

Ambassador Fabrizi highlighted Italy’s intention to advance a €250 million bilateral cooperation framework for the coming three years, noting that Italy stands ready to engage robustly across key development areas.

Minister Ahmed Shide emphasized the importance of working to support the agenda reform as the country is successfully completing the first year of its IMF-supported ECF program and entered its second year, where development partners’ enhanced support is indispensable.

Ambassador Fabrizi also expressed Italy’s growing interest in deepening private-sector involvement, noting especially the strong appetite among Italian investors to participate in Ethiopia’s transformative infrastructure initiatives, including the construction of the country’s new international airport. He further reaffirmed his commitment to work tirelessly to boost Italian investments and to help unlock opportunities within Ethiopia’s fast-growing economy.

Minister Ahmed Shide highlighted that Ethiopia has been confirmed as the host of COP-32 in 2027, a milestone that reflects the country’s and the African’s growing global role in climate diplomacy. He underscored the scale of preparations required for such a high-level global gathering and requested Italy’s financial and technical support to ensure the successful organization of the event.

Ambassador Fabrizi acknowledged the significance of Ethiopia’s hosting responsibility and expressed Italy’s readiness to explore modalities of support in line with the strong partnership between the two nations.

Reflecting on his distinguished career in public service and diplomacy, Ambassador Fabrizi reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening the historic cooperation between the two nations.

Minister Ahmed Shide conveyed his best wishes for the Ambassador’s successful tenure in Ethiopia, expressing confidence that his experience, commitment, and vision will help take the Ethiopia–Italy partnership to the next level.
