Ethiopia Seeks Stronger Development Cooperation at AfDB Annual Meetings
May 28, 2025
Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire – 28 May 2025 – A delegation led by Her Excellency State Minister Semereta of Finance is currently participating in the ongoing African Development Bank Group Annual Meetings in Abidjan.
On the sidelines of the meetings, State Minister held productive talks with Mr. Eric Meyer, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Africa at the U.S. Department of the Treasury on bilateral economic cooperation. The State Minister Semereta also conferred with Steven Collet, the Deputy Director-General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands on strengthening partnerships in critical areas.
Her Excellency will continue engaging in the Annual Meetings, including participating in the highly anticipated election of the new AfDB President, scheduled to take place on 29 May 2025.
The election is a highly consequential leadership transition process to appoint the next President, who will serve a five-year term. The incoming President will assume office at a time of unprecedented challenges facing the continent, including rising debt vulnerabilities, climate-related emergencies, declining development assistance, and a volatile global economic landscape.
In addition to taking part in the election process, the delegation will attend various meetings organized by the AfDB, request a new budget support project, as well as hold strategic discussions with bilateral partners on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings.
