Ethiopia Signals "Open for Business" with 4th High-Level International Investment Forum

Published: March 3, 2026

ADDIS ABABA, March 3, 2026 — The Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC), in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Finance and international development partners, hosted a press conference today to announce the 4th "Invest in Ethiopia 2026 Forum". Scheduled for March 26–27, 2026, at the Skylight Hotel, the forum aims to solidify Ethiopia’s position as a premier global investment destination under the theme: "Ethiopia is Ready for Investment".

Commissioner of the EIC Dr. Zeleke Temesgen stated that Ethiopia is presently the second-leading country in Africa for foreign direct investment inflows. He mentioned that the Invest in Ethiopia Forum is a key component of the country's continued efforts to position Ethiopia as a top investment destination across the continent.

During the press conference, H.E. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance, emphasized that the ultimate goal of Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reforms is to attract foreign investment and boost the local economy. This momentum was corroborated by Maryam Salim, World Bank Division Director, who noted Ethiopia’s progress in micro-economic stabilization and the opening of previously restricted sectors. She further reaffirmed that with continued private-sector-focused reforms, Ethiopia has the potential to achieve broad-based, inclusive, double-digit growth.

H.E. Dr. Zeleke Temesgen highlighted the forum's objective to attract "anchor investors" and secure major investment deals. He reminded participants of the success of the 3rd forum, which saw 750 participants from 58 countries and the signing of $1.6 billion USD in agreements with five major firms in mining and solar production. These firms are now fully operational, with several already exporting to international markets.

In addition to the main forum, a Public-Private Dialogue will be held on March 10, 2026, at the Skylight Hotel to facilitate direct discussion between the government and the private sector to further enable a conducive business environment.

More than 800 international investors, business leaders, and policymakers are expected to attend. Registration is currently open and can be completed via the official online application on the Ethiopian Investment Commission’s website.
