Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance participated in the G-24 114th Ministers and Governors Meeting in Washington, D.C.

H.E. Ato Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, attended the 114th Ministers and Governors of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four during the 2025 World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings. The G-24 Finance Ministers and Governors, under the chairmanship of Argentina, convened to discuss Structural Transformation Policies for Unlocking Growth Potential.
The meeting was attended by G-24 Ministers and Governors, as well as Ms. Kristlina Georgeva, IMF Managing Director, Ms. Anna Bjerde, World Bank Group Managing Director for Operations, Ms. Hanan Morsy, Deputy Executive Secretary Programme and Chief Economist, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, as special guests.
His Excellency Minister Ahmed Shide called for a bigger, better, and fairer multilateral system to ensure developing countries have a true voice and adequate access to resources. echoing the G-24 communiqué’s call for predictable and timely debt-restructuring mechanisms under the G20 Common Framework, while acknowledging modest progress achieved in this area.
In his remarks, the Minister emphasized the importance of concessional financing, renewed multilateralism, greater solidarity, and a global system that delivers for developing economies in both crisis response and long-term development.
The IMF Managing Director and the World Bank Group Managing Director for Operations equally reaffirmed their commitment to maintain strong program engagement with several G-24 member countries, while commending the ongoing reform efforts across many G-24 members, encouraging them to stay the course to safeguard financial stability and lay the groundwork for sustainable, inclusive growth, and calling for MDBs and private lenders to join this effort.
