IMF Deputy Managing Director Meets with Senior Ethiopian Officials

The Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mr. Nigel Clarke, and his delegation held discussions with senior officials of the Government of Ethiopia. Mr. Clarke arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday for an official visit.
This morning, the delegation met with Minister of finance H.E Ato Ahmed Shide, governor of National Bank of Ethiopia, H.E Dr Eyob Tekalign, Minister of Plannign & Devleopment, H.E Dr Fitsum Assefa, and other officials. The discussions focused on Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reforms, IMF support to the reform agenda, and opportunities for continued collaboration.
The Minister of Finance, H.E. Ato Ahmed Shide, provided an overview of Ethiopia’s economic reform efforts and emphasized the government’s commitment to consolidating progress and building on recent gains. He underscored Ethiopia’s interest in maintaining strong partnership with the IMF.
Mr. Clarke commended the country’s notable progress under the Homegrown Economic Reform Program, highlighting that several challenging reforms are already delivering visible results. He also recognized the high level of preparation, coordination, and determination required to advance fiscal, monetary, and structural reforms simultaneously. Looking ahead, he encouraged Ethiopia to maintain the reform momentum.
During his visit, Mr. Clarke will continue to meet with senior government officials and visit key development projects.
