The two discussed the positive results of the humanitarian truce, including humanitarian assistance delivery over recent days to Ethiopians in the Tigray, Afar as well as Amhara regions. The US representative lauded the encouraging situation created for humanitarian operations in the Tigray region, and mentioned the need for the Tigrayan side to ensure access for aid delivery. She also indicated the need for continued efforts toward human rights accountability during the conflict in northern Ethiopia and sustained peace across the country. 

The Minister also briefed H.E. on the government’s ongoing recovery planning and resource mobilization efforts to support the conflict affected regions. He indicated that Ethiopia will seek development partners’ assistance to adequately recover from the effects of the conflict, which has significantly affected people’s livelihoods, welfare, as well as the economy and infrastructure.

USAID Ethiopia Mission Head, on his part, informed the Minister about a new regional humanitarian aid program for drought response this year, which will be launched soon in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. The Minister and Ambassador reaffirmed their commitment to continue and strengthen cooperation activities between the two countries.
