ADDIS ABABA - May 8, 2026 — The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) hosted a prestigious Recognition Dinner on May 8, 2026, at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel to celebrate 15 years of unwavering support from development partners. The event brought together senior government officials, international partners, and smallholder farmers to recognize a decade and a half of innovation, productivity growth, and rural transformation.
H.E. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance, underscored that the success of Ethiopia’s agricultural sector is deeply rooted in collaborative efforts. Highlighting the profound nature of these alliances, Minister Semereta stated: "Your contributions have gone beyond financing by strengthening institutions, fostering innovation, and advancing sustainable and inclusive growth for millions of Ethiopians. Today’s gathering is therefore not only a celebration of achievements, but also a recognition of the value of partnership, mutual trust, and shared responsibility".
She further noted that agriculture remains the heartbeat of the nation, serving as a "key driver of livelihoods, food security, employment, export growth, and national resilience".
Similarly, Dr. Mandefro Nigussie, Director General of the ATI, emphasized that the Institute’s milestone achievements are a direct result of the enduring synergy between the government and its partners. Dr. Mandefro remarked that "ATI’s achievements in supporting evidence-based agricultural transformation, strengthening value chains, promoting innovation, and improving food systems would not have been possible without the strategic and financial support of development partners".
He reaffirmed that the ATI "remains steadfast in its commitment" to advancing the national agenda through "evidence-based policy support, innovative solutions, and strengthened institutional capacity". Dr. Mandefro expressed his deepest appreciation for the "commitment and collaboration" that has allowed the Institute to reach close to 5 million smallholder farmers and implement over 60 innovative projects.
The event featured a exhibition showcasing success stories of farmers whose lives were transformed through ATI-led interventions. During a formal ceremony, the ATI presented recognition certificates and commemorative awards to 14 development partners.
Seven organizations received special recognition for their exceptional and extensive contributions to Ethiopia’s agricultural journey:
• The World Bank
• The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
• The Mastercard Foundation
• The Embassies of Denmark and the Netherlands
• Agence Française de Développement (AFD)
• The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).
Minister Semereta concluded the evening by reminding attendees that while progress is significant, "the journey toward inclusive rural transformation remains ongoing" amid challeng
es like climate change and market volatility. The Ministry of Finance remains committed to ensuring that development cooperation effectively supports "sustainable growth, resilience, and improved livelihoods".
